We believe the winning combination of being able to offer valuable relevant industry experience coupled with academia that is industry recognised promotes best practice and provides the necessary skills an employer will be looking for.
Delivery requirementsA key aspect of your endorsed award for recognition by the STA is that students must undertake a minimum of 300 guided learning hours (GLH), which must include 110 face-to-face hours (FTH) in-classroom training. Please note 36 hours of the FTH can be presented as supervised practicum evidenced by a logbook and signed off by the training provider. An example of how these practicum hours can be broken down is as follows:
- 12 hours – Event Work – supervised
- 12 hours – Case Study – academic setting (supervised clinic) – practical assessment
To show the industry that you have embedded the required skills we will provide you with the STA logo and a Certificate of Authentication. Following approval you will have the support of a qualified External Quality Assurer (EQA) to help you continue to meet the highest standards.

An Industry Award is a piece of training that has been developed by an employer in-house or by a private training provider, and offers graduates entry to the Sports Therapy Association (STA). Industry Awards must fully map to the relevant National Occupational Standards (NOS) to ensure an industry benchmark is met, but it gives you the autonomy to add more contextualised content to the course and assessment – a huge benefit when developing your universal selling point to learners.

An assessed training programme must have a mandatory assessment (formative or summative) linked to the programme learning aims and outcomes. Total learning time (TLT) must be a minimum of 8 hours and may incorporate the assessment, pre-course study and break times. All training must be underpinned by current, valid research and be evidence based.
All those responsible for the creation as well as the delivery of the training programme must be suitably qualified. Authors, tutors, assessors and the internal quality assurers must hold the relevant qualifications or acceptable alternatives.
Training that includes practical skills is required to include a practical assessment. Practical assessments should, where possible, be conducted in a face to face setting. Video assessments may be used. Knowledge-based training requires a suitable theory assessment e.g. multiple choice theory paper or case study*. Theory assessments must adhere to PD:Approval’s invigilation guidelines and be completed in a classroom rather than online. The suitability of the chosen assessment tool will be reviewed by PD:Approval’s Technical Evaluator at the submission stage.
*Case study assessments must reflect the course learning outcomes and adhere to fair and reasonable assessment principles. Case study assessments may be completed online.
Hologrammed and personalised PD:Approval achievement certificates can be provided for your learners (£25+VAT each) by registering them on this site and providing their status when they have completed their assessment. Let us know if this is something you are interested in.
Prices are per annum. For full details of the submission process including an evidence list, download our CPD Submission Guide.
4-7 CDP points
A non-assessed programme must have formative learning checks (for example, quizzes, scenarios, questions, group work) that are linked to the learning aims and outcomes. Non-assessed training programmes that are of a practical nature may be delivered online, however face to face delivery is encouraged. Total learning time (TLT) must be a minimum of 4 hours. All training content must be underpinned by current valid research and be evidenced based.
All those responsible for the creation as well as the delivery of the training programme must be suitably qualified. Authors, tutors, assessors and the internal quality assurers must hold the relevant qualifications or acceptable alternatives.

Informal training does not require formal learning checks as it is predominantly research, practical training or self-directed learning e.g. short workshops, master classes, pod casts, book reviews. However, all training in this category must be underpinned by current, valid research and be evidence based. Endorsement is for informal training that is at least one hour long.
All those responsible for delivery of the training must be suitably qualified, including the author.
Prices are per annum. For full details of the submission process including an evidence list, download our CPD Submission Guide.
